I have real strong opinions of white people in America, being one myself.

How privileged we are, how racist we are, and I often get silenced for those opinions so I tend to lay back more often these days.

Factor in posters like Empowerer, AngeeisMad, Karenina, BrewmanJax (who swore that he would NEVER post here again after he saw some decisions made by Skinner soon after the 2008 election) who never even came over from DU2 and it's just too much.

Between the black posters that have left, the attacks on the black ones that remain, and the attacks on our white friends by assholes that have anointed themselves our Representatives and saunter into threads that discuss our issues and deem them fake or "unimportant" as if anyone gives the first shit what their ignorant, loudly racist selves think about any damn thing on this earth, this place has become absolutely more trouble than its worth.

I'm a white guy, ally and this is my favorite group here at DU. I suggest reading a lot of threads and participating whenever you want. I'm not up to date on all the current stuff. Sometimes I read and post. Others times I just enjoy reading. Same goes for the rest of DU, I don't always keep up to date with daily drama, lol. There's a lot of great members here who also may be busy with their private lives or other things too. There's also a nice roll call thread here in this group. I hope this helps a bit.

I haven't gotten any hides in about a year. Then again, I'm not that outspoken compared to some of the other regulars. I normally post just 2-5 times a day on DU, I don't make threads often (and I only make Black-related threads in this subforum and Obama-related threads in the BOG instead of GD), and I've barely posted anything critical about either of the Dem candidates so far. I've been watching what has gone on in GD when people make inquiries about a candidate and get ganged on, or when Obama threads either sink like a stone or attract snide deflections that contribute little to the topic. I have to tip my hat to any posters who have the bravery and patience to enter the fray and go back-and-forth with the screamers and potential trolls. My feelings about this site today have become a little odd; on the one hand, I still love posting here, but simultaneously, I wouldn't recommend anyone coming here. Not in its current state where there's an obvious troll and alert-stalking problem.
