Still having trouble? Here, let us zoom in for you:
As you can see, this guy is wearing what appears to be a Bernie Sanders button, which all but confirms this gentleman as his only black supporter.
However, if you look in the lower left corner of the photo, there is evidence of a possible second black man:

That's all well and good, and I'm not denigrating that work, but it's almost as if they're trying to say, "You shouldn't expect him to continue this" or, "Because he's done stuff in the past, you shouldn't question him now."
Those on DU who had questions about Bernie got accused of calling Bernie a "racist".. uh huh. Now this thing has just exploded.
Next year Netroots is going to be in St Louis.. Netroots stands with #BlackLivesMatter!
"In a statement, Netroots Nation Executive Director Raven Brooks stood with the protesters. Although we wish the candidates had more time to respond to the issues, what happened today is reflective of an urgent moment that America is facing today, Brooks said. Next years conference will take place in St. Louis, close to Ferguson, and local leaders of the #BlackLivesMatter movement will be directly engaged, Brooks added. We plan to work with activists there just as we did in Phoenix, to amplify issues like racial profiling and police brutality in a major way.

REASON FOR ALERT
This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.
ALERTER'S COMMENTS
This is a blatantly racist post, just look at how the second paragraph starts: "I just don't get why black people want to shit on white male progressives". That is a pretty broad brush to use against black people, and the rest of the post is not much better. Posting this racist crap in a thread meant to unite people seems to be obvious trolling, please hide.

Explanation: yeah, sorry.. this poster is obtuse and his statement is a pathetic, callous insult to the Black Community that has seen their people being murdered over and over again by the police.
Actually, I think it is the so-called "progressives" who are "shitting" on the Black Community.

(14,733 posts)Three parts that stood out for me...
It pinpoints a problem with the campaign, suggests the solution, even implies that some work is being done towards fixing the problem. Then goes on to point out the joke, although really, most of the people who need to take a chill pill probably won't ever read the interview.

(14,733 posts)I'm sure I haven't been making many of the other Bernie supporters happy with many of my comments over the last couple of days, either. As I've noted elsewhere, there's an awful lot of 'It's all about ME'ism floating around, or at least a lot of 'It's all about Bernie'. Which, if you flip into that viewpoint, immediately leads to the sorta paranoid conclusion that the 'ambush' was an 'attack' on Bernie, and thus on 'Bernie supporters'. Just like the candidates needs a 'Remember thou art mortal...' whisperer following them around, a lot of folks need a 'remember it's not all about you...' whisperer. We live our lives in our own heads, and some people never risk a step outside.
1StrongBlackMan
(31,849 posts)But that's one thing I recognize and respect about you ... you don't move with the herd!
Have you been booted from the Bernie Group yet!
What do you think about this point?
This is a clear example of why I (and others) have been saying about his inability/unwillingness to disentangle race from economic justice ... it leads to such statements that have Black folks bristling.
Erich Bloodaxe BSN
(14,733 posts)And, as I'm sure you know, I do tend to too. I'm hoping he realizes, as I do, that there's simply no way to cast EVERY problem as an economic one, or one that can be solved with economic solutions. Economic solutions ameliorate other problems by making those who are economically fragile more resilient, giving them more breathing room to focus on those other problems. But they do not eliminate them. Unlike other supporters, though, I'm not going to claim I have some special insight into Bernie's mind. I don't know for sure if his resistance to speak in terms of racial justice is simply an attempt to stay on message, ideological blinders, or something more distressing. But 'staying on message' can hurt if it means the ONLY message he puts out is the one for 'white America'. He can talk about prisons, police shooting of black people, and other things as much as he wants, but if he doesn't have the right tone, messaging, and especially concrete policy proposals, it's just not going to matter much. And that means having messages that address racial issues in racial terms, not just economic ones.

I'm not expecting him to drop out of the race; I think he'll be fine. Hopefully, from the tweets I've seen, I think his campaign's listening, and hopefully they're going to regroup and hopefully reform and be more vocal around some of these issues.

(32,342 posts)Honestly, I think this is a shot in the arm for NN. I enjoyed it in 2013, but it is kind of a lovefest for the progressive wing of the DP.
I posted a video in V&M of one of my favorite labor activists, Gregory Cendana, who changed his statement to the ending plenary for this year, to signal boost and support BLM and their statement at NN15. Netroots and AFL-CIO both posted it on Twitter, so I think these wild claims of BLM ruining NN are totally unfounded and are not shared by important allies.

Which I thought was a funny joke. It's like they're almost trying to outblack us. "Oh, you're a black person, what could you possibly understand about our candidate? He was marching before you were even born!" Okay, that's cool, but you gotta stay on top of it. So I made a joke that's like, "Bernie's blacker than us! Bernie's SO BLACK!" That's how it feels when they come into our mentions and tell us that we don't know what we're talking about, and even though [Sanders] doesn't talk about #BlackLivesMatter right now, we should just kind of shut up. So I was just like:
snip//
Roderick Morrow:Sort of. The thing about the Bernie Sanders fans is while they're very obtuse and they don't listen, they are more polite than the people who just call you the n-word or a racial slur or something. It's more like that passive-aggressive "We're on the same side, man!" where clearly they don't want you to talk about anything that their candidate can do better, but they do want you to just vote for him.
I love this guy!
