Before the fight, Diouf said, he went downtown to pick up his girlfriend from The Royal Night Club. When he was parking, he said one of the three men approached his car, told him to leave, and called him a racial slur.

When Diouf came out of the night club with his girlfriend, they found the three men there. One of the men accused Diouf of having a gun, and Diouf said the men backed him up before one hit his girlfriend. Diouf said he does not own a gun, and police later confirmed that he had no gun at the time.

Police were not called, but an officer who happened to be patrolling in the area stepped in. Scanlon said the officer investigated what happened but didn’t believe he had enough evidence to make an arrest because, at the time, he had no independent witnesses, no one was significantly injured and everyone was intoxicated. Scanlon said Monday that the investigating officer did not watch the video.

Diouf, however, said he wasn’t drunk that night because he doesn’t drink. His girlfriend, he said, had a black eye.

*Three drunk guys - not four - three . . . They started in with their racist language as soon as they saw Mr. Diouf. While he was parking his car.

*The three drunk racists then tried to get him killed (get to that in a second) by accusing him of having a gun.

*Mario Zamora punches Mr. Diouf's girlfriend in the face.

*Someone films it and puts it online.

*Intervening Officer decides to poo poo this thing because everyone was intoxicated?


Down below I've posted some information about Mr. Diouf's non profit of which he is The President of - Africa Better Days. He strikes me as a positive person, doing the right thing, making things happen, making the world better. All he did was do what a person's partner SHOULD do -help your girlfriend out - go get her if she needs a ride late at night. It makes sense to me why he would find this whole tawdry incident INSTIGATED by these three cheap dime store hood racists embarrassing and why he wouldn't want video of it out there.

Put yourself in his shoes - you are literally helping make people's lives better in the developing world and are reliant on donations to make that happen. You are the President of this organization. These guys did more than just hurt this man's girlfriend physically - they put his organization at risk.


A black child THOUGHT to have a gun was killed on site in Ohio - Tamir Rice. When you accuse a black man in America of having a gun that can be death sentence handed down to them by a police officer. Thank GOD the intervening officer did not just roll up and shoot Mr. Diouf because of three drunk racists.

Assault is Assault - since when do we dismiss things like a stranger punching someone in the face?

Mr. Diouf arrived in his own vehicle. He was leaving with the intent to get in his own vehicle. IF everyone was intoxicated - why did the police officer allow him to leave? Maybe they don't have drunk driving laws in Washington State? That doesn't make sense - I don't believe that. He could not have been intoxicated.

This one will be interesting to watch/observe. I hate to say it - but we might have a "Flawless Victim". I simply don't believe that he can be convicted of his own assault or that of his girlfriend.


This is why I refer to him as Mr. Diouf. This man is stellar.

Glad Mario Zamora was charged. And, I hope Mr Diouf is successful in actually getting charges to stick against his attackers, too.

They no doubt weren't clueless. even in their drunken stupor, of what the repercussions could be of accusing a Black Man of having a "gun!".

I wish the men could actually learn something from their drunken racist behavior. That they're not such hot shit after all. Better not to take your stupidity out on others.

2. This whole episode is very disturbing

and you bring a lot of the issues to this OP.

How can this NOT be a hate crime when it starts with white men making racial slurs before an assault?

How is "everyone was intoxicated" relevant? (Leaving aside for the moment that it wasn't true about Mr. Diouf.) Is it ok to hit a woman in the face if she is drunk? What about if she is just a little tipsy? What is next...she was wearing a short skirt and therefore she was "asking" for it?

I have no legal knowledge to add, but I wonder why all of the men can't be charged as instigators/accessories if they "jumped" Mr. Diouf, and "backed him up before one hit his girlfriend"? Isn't that contributing to the assault?

And the very obvious that you pointed out, why was Mr. Diouf allowed to leave driving his car if the cop thought he was intoxicated?

I was also struck by the comment made by Aston Maden who made the video: “I think my community has the right to see public violence in Bellingham.” I think his use of "my community" is very odd and I wonder what he is referring to, especially given that he appeared to be making that statement as a reason to refuse Mr. Diouf's request that he take the video down.

I am very glad that you included the information about Mr. Diouf. He does seem like a very good person who may have a difficult time over this publicity. A "tawdry incident" indeed where Mr. Diouf and his girlfriend are totally innocent victims.

I do hope at the "investigation" by the cop on the scene isn't the last one done. They deserve justice.

4. While there has always been racism in this country, it seems that the increase has

been caused, in the main, by a couple of factors. The root cause is the loss of manufacturing jobs and jobs in general that I relate to the terrible trade deals starting with NAFTA and the 2008 crash. The other major cause is the MSM blaming minorities and immigrants for this to cover for the corporations/Plutocrats who are responsible.

The MSM has shaped this situation and polarized the population. The less educated whites who are finding it hard to find good paying jobs, something that has not been much of a problem in the past, are desperate to blame someone for this. They are easily led by the MSM and people like Trump, Rush Limpballs, Michael Savage...

By enacting Publicly Funded Elections (PFE's) we can attack the root problem behind all of this. PFEs would stop our politicians from being purchased and end the control of our government. Thus we could return Representative Democracy and be able to bust up the media and banking oligarchies. With a less partisan atmosphere and more regulation of the MSM, much of which uses the Public airwaves under license, we can reduce the fanning of the flames of bigotry and hate.

6. Maybe 1/20 th of it

Many bigots learned it at home. Maybe it was subtle - maybe it was blatant. Zamora at 26 didn't just all of a sudden lose a job due to a trade deal.

My parents were run off the road in 1970 (black man/white woman) - how do you explain that? NAFTA didn't exist then. How do you explain those who don't believe this way who have been impacted by the economy? Why do we give white folks a pass due to hardship and poverty - but not black folks?

My theory? Zamora is a loser who never even tried to reach for the brass ring.

We have a tale of two men - about the same age. One an immigrant from Africa the other native born. One doing the right things - one making an ACTIVE choice to do the wrong thing. Regardless of his "oh woe is me the corporate plutocrat oligarch overlords" sob story - he could have made a better choice.

You come across - it may not be intentional - as trying to give me a sob story about a victim of America.

I don't buy that. White men - have plenty of opportunities . . . And yep - married to one - who also happens to be an immigrant that came here with savings and a dream. The recent " middle aged white men suicide stories" - his peers - have him rolling his eyes. Any other 46 year old white guy could have made a choice to start a business that caters to the rich and above. And that business has left him with seriously calloused hands. Achy bones, sore shoulders, and a trigger finger. He showers after work.

Regarding the airwaves - they aren't entirely to blame. The airwaves played a part in Rwanda - but the Hutus had to be open to it. Same as in America. And putting the blame on "recent pols" let's Newt and his Contract On America cronies off the hook. It lets Reagan off the hook for his speech in Philadelphia Mississippi. It says - hey! All of those years where your parents and grandparents and in Zamora's case possibly Great Grandparents - benefited off of Government Policies enacted in the 30's, 40's, and 50's that allowed them to get ahead while DELIBERATELY shutting black Americans out - disregard that.

Because - NAFTA.

So not buying it.

Personal Responsibility to oneself and to not be a criminal and beat up strangers. Personal Responsibility and being raised right. His parents are epic failures - not America. He is an epic failure. Epic. I hope this haunts him every time he applies for a job for the rest of his life.

And the cop? He needs to be written up. He is lazy at best and incompetent at worst.

That is the only job in America where if you don't follow the rules and best procedures of compliance you get a cookie and a gold star.

This would be like my analyst who leads on OFAC/BIS review telling Global Customer Service - sure! Send a phone to Thomas Butler while he's in Kenya! Doesn't matter he's on the list and brought unauthorized bubonic plague back the last time he went to Africa. Sure no biggie.

Not only would she be fired - but she woud also be charged, prosecuted, have to pay a fine, and possibly lose her right to ship inside/outside of the US. HER - not the Company. The individual working is at fault.

7. I was talking about the increase in bigotry. I concede racism is learned at home

and has always been there. Human nature alone seems to make people gravitate to groups that they want to claim are better than the rest. Whether it is grouping by race, religion, union vs. non-union... they all claim everyone else who is different is inferior or wrong. I don't think we can ever rid ourselves of this tendency completely. We can however affect the intensity of the bigotry through the MSM and people like Trump.

I am white and my wife is black and we live in SE Texas, so I have learned a lot about this subject first hand. Things are much worse than they have been because of all of the attention these racists assholes have been getting and the fact that the racists still cannot handle a black President!
