I don't understand why the author is trying to hard to defend racism in the US in the previous century.

Did you actually read what the author posted? I believe s/he was referring to the 1900s and accidentally said 19thC instead of 20th. What is there about the quote, below, that defends racism in the US?

"For most Westerners, this type of blatant in-your-face racism is more reminiscent of 19th century blackface media in the U.S. than the more subtle, yet equally destructive, stereotypes of black people that remain depressingly common in contemporary television and film."

what I have suspected all along. This mainstream chinese ad sums up their true feelings of African-americans. Why would asians hate AA's in a manner such as encountered in white supremacist communities in america and europe. I just can't understand this age old hatred(I do really)why white skinned people hold such emnity toward people with melanin in their skin of African descent. Are asians sucking up in a manner they feel is appropriate to keep in the good graces of white people, many who are racist they must feel. Geez, no shock at all really, I've known this fact for a long time, most asians don't like black people.

Why is that BLACK MAN willing to be in such a racist commercial? Why would he portray HIMSELF as dirt or trash? I guess money overpowers racism and self pride.
