also, as were my parents... but I grew up... it stopped with my children... at some point we all have to take responsibility

I look back with disgust at some of things I said (mimicking my parents) when I was 10 years old

The things my family members would say (and still say) were/ are fucking disgusting and terrible. As a kid I wasn't aware how awful they were. It took me to near teenage years before I began to realize how awful those words were. Those words stopped with me and I talk to my kids about racism and white supremacy. We live in a racially diverse area (unfortunately I grew up in overwhelmingly white small towns), and my kids actually have friends of different races, something I wasn't able to experience.
