Louise Penny is my new favorite author (link)

I think I posted about her on the old DU, but I've now read all her books in her series and they just kept getting better, so I wanted to recommend them here, in case anyone was looking for a great new series of books to dive into. Here's a link to see what I mean (and if her books are your cup of tea): http://www.louisepenny.com/reviews.htm

Here are the books in order:
Still Life (2005)
A Fatal Grace (2007)
The Cruelest Month (2008)
A Rule Against Murder (2009)
The Brutal Telling (2009)
Bury Your Dead (2010)
A Trick of the Light (2011)

Cheers!
Lex

in a tiny village called "Three Pines" and there are some scenes in Montreal and Quebec.

Lots of casual information in the book about the long-standing tension between the French and English. Stuff I didn't know much about but have learned while reading the series. Interesting background information in each book that sets the mood for the main story. Not boring, complex characters, but not overly so to the point it's bogged down, and well written.

and I agree with you. I was so afraid to try her when Centipede Shoes recommended Penney, mostly because of the French names of people and places.

But if I pronounce them wrong in my mind, that doesn't take away from the good stories and rich character development.

I'm starting to like books by foreign authors.
