1. A Dune Adrift by Marq De Villers and Sheila Hirtle. About the history of Sable Island. Really

fascinating. Seems the horses on the huge sand bar in the Atlantic were from Grand Pré when the Acadians were expulsed from Canada.

2. "Chill Run" by Brian Russell

It was an ok read, but interesting character. I'd never before read a book about a black Canadian whose parents immigrated from Barbados before he was born. His best friend was of Jamaican descent, and the girl in the book was Jamaican/Italian.

Plot and action were a bit far-fetched, but the characters were interesting. I don't miss the cold of northern winters.

3. DEATH OF A DUSTMAN (2001) by M. C. Beaton

This is the 17th of the Hamish Macbeth series in the Scottish Highlands.

I didn't like the previous 4 books and was ready to ditch my lovable Hamish but Beaton managed to salvage his flirtatious rear-end and resurrected his "sort of" love for Priscilla, who has been absent for the last 4 books. Dustman is a good one. I'll stay with Beaton till the end, Hamish's or mine.

Just started this book early this morning after finishing Hamish Macbeth...so I don't know if it's good or not....

It's about Manabu Yukawa (“Detective Galileo”), a brilliant physics professor, and police detective Kusanagi, in Tokyo, Japan.

8. "Proportionate Response" by Dave Buschi

Second book of his I've read on kindle, this one has all new characters. Overall it was pretty good, but the beginning was great; I started the book and by the time I stopped for air after the first scene, I was 11% into it! Reminded me of a Marcus Wynne scene, breaking everything down and making you notice each thing that led to the confrontation.

Part of it took place in Shanghei, but there was only superficial incorporation of the city; talking about some of the new glittering skyscrapers vs. the old and mostly empty communist-era gray cement buildings, or the ever-present smog that makes it look as if the sun never really comes out.

Overall, it has me ready to buy a third book when it comes out.

The Sun Set on Yorktown College

I am a kindle freak. I couldn`t live without my ebook reader. Purchased this recently and found it to be a powerful romantic drama. I saw it on another site and someone posted a positive review so I decided to buy it for $2.99.

Basically, Marc is a wrestler from Canada he comes to America and meets Stacy by some stroke of fate. Love, romance, curveballs, some sorrow. Powerful but quite enjoyable. I finished it last night

10. A Curable Romantic by Joseph Kibell

So far, a little over halfway through, I really like it.

11. "The Last Witness" by Joel Goldman

Second in the attorney Lou Mason series, set in Kansas City. Just downloaded it today, so I'll have to leave a followup report if I finish it this week.

12. Just Finished Gilman's Mrs. Pollifax and the Lion Killer . . .

leaving only one in the Pollifax series to be completed, alas.

Also working on Kipling's The Jungle Book (Nook) and Heaney's Cradle of Gold, tale of Bingham's exploration of Machu Picchu.

Simon Brett doesn't do a bad job reading his books, either. Of course, radio/TV is his background.

Kim Stanley Robinson.

The solar system is humanity's home, but the ecological and other "human " problems look curiously similar

By the way, if a human augments their humanity with computers, other species etc, when does she cease to be human? or does she? I LOVE THIS BOOK

strangely enough I just could not get into Red Mars last week , so I set it aside for another time. It is the first KSR book that I could not immediately love

16. SEVEN DEADLY WONDERS (2005) By Matthew Reilly

Had to put Cast, In Order of Disappearance aside because the renewall date on this one gives me little time to finish it, and it's already been renewed once.

This is a stand-alone book.

17. The Passage - Justin Cronin

It will take melonger than a week to read since its over 800 pages long. I'm going on a trip so it will be good for the plane.

I've read about 400 pages. It started out strong but seems to be petering out. Hopefully it will pick up. It's got a decent sci-fi-ish end of the world as we know it premise but the middle really starts to drag.
