an infuriating book: "White Rage"

I'm only part way into this book, and have been reading how the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments were interpreted by the courts so as to deny the benefits to blacks. It is amazing how similar some of those Supreme Court decisions are to some of today's decisions. For example, recently the Supreme Court ruled that state courts were the only remedy for gerrymandering in a state. In the 1800's, it also ruled that blacks could only turn to state courts to enforce their civil rights issues.

It's been over 100 years, and right-wing arguments sound exactly the same now as then.

I have a lot more to read in the book, but it looks very worthwhile.
