Getting gas in Canada...where are we...

An American couple is driving through Canada and stops at a gas station to fuel up.

As the man goes into the station to pay, his wife calls out to him, “ask them where we are!” So the husband walks in, pays, and asks, “by the way, where are we?”

To which the attendant answers, “Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.”

The man goes back to his car and the wife asks, “where are we?”

“He doesn't speak English" replies the husband.

Reminds me of a story...

Once upon a time in another life, in another century, I was delivering a load of produce from Oregon to a place near Montreal, Quebec. I was part of a driving team and my team mate had never been east of Ohio, had no knowledge about the place. As we entered Quebec Province all the signs were in French only. My buddy kind of freaks and worries that we will never find our way. I kept quiet but after a few miles I started reading out the signs and telling him what they said. He was shocked but I was suddenly the greatest asset on the rig. He was calling everybody we knew to tell them I spoke and read French, honestly barely enough to get by and with help from gracious francophones along the way! It was a fun afternoon trying to remember my French after years of not using it. I had to handle the business end at delivery and all through our time in the province until we re-entered the US. I had a new status after that.

Re-entry into NY wasn't a pretty thing but it's also a story I would not relate online.
