a carpenter fixes a broken heart

a carpenter fixes a broken heart

first i took some scrap lathing and a few finishing nails
tacked the pieces together blood leaked at the seams
though it was still beating tatters hung from the edges
fluttering and puffing with every weak pulse in and out
then i got some coarse sandpaper to smooth the joins
set the nails adding some wood putty to hide the scars
after drying i sanded with a fine grit and wiped it clean
let it sit a few days to cure and applied a clear varnish
a while later though it still lived i started all over again
i carefully took it apart removing everything i had done
then trimmed the frayed pieces of all the excess splinters
it was smooth and rounded and could never be repaired
i set it in a resin and a clear epoxy to accent the colors
the feeble beats have almost ended so soon i will be free
