the price of memory
at first the silence went unnoticed so slow and gradual
spaces grew longer yet puzzlement raised little doubts
looking back every sign missed is explained as natural
as some bits of befuddlement bouts in anger and pouts
down what hole does memory flow dark not to return
walls crumble into soft dust still forming a false facade
with no rites or ceremony no candles nor incense burn
until little by little flaking rust surrenders to an odd god
time passed without acceptance of days dwelt in denial
at last as moments of understanding appeared intruded
overwhelming the last reluctance at the crux of the trial
words failed in the undemanding a final fate concluded
how does life go from here hell heaven an eternal void
alive in love aware in fear both damaged and destroyed
