the price of shame
little shames lie buried deep in the garden of guilt
decaying slowly underneath nurturing fresh flowers
yet when it’s time to sleep each is exhumed rebuilt
although the sins were brief they stretch the hours
an indiscretion or a little lie slips glibly off a tongue
feeling the twinge of remorse in an instant moment
show trust in innocent eyes the songs sweetly sung
all while believing of course lust is lost and dormant
who to blame as cheeks redden soft furtive glances
hidden are illusions of doubt secret tastes and scents
how long before the soul deadens pierced by lances
when the time comes to flout or boast of sacraments
creeping away from secret love within the dark night
see not left right down nor above be oblivious of sight
