Time once again for "Name that book!"

It's fairly recent, and I'm trying to recall the name because it was the first of a trilogy ( I think). I only saw it in paperback

The plot was based on time travel paradoxes and also involved an alien machine/worm hole that transferred objects to a specific site every 30 days or so. A secret government agency secures each object as it appears and tries to figure out what the hell it does. There is also a mysterious plane crash involving the First Lady, a possible end to civilization as we know it, people running back and forth sending warnings across time to each other.


I've got to start writing these things down!

read but I have not heard of it at all.

As soon as you are done reading this post, get up from the computer, go off to a store that will sell any kind of office or school supplies and purchase a notebook. Use it to write down every book and author as soon as you read it.

I've been doing it for years and it's very helpful.

The only thing that comes up is Fred Pohl and his Heechee stuff, not sure that's right.

3. Not Fred Pohl - this is a new writer, maybe his first book?

4. Yeah, didn't think so.

I used to read vast quantities of that stuff, but it's been a long time. Now there are a few writers I track (Atwood, Banks), but not many since the 90s.

6. I picked up _Ghost Country_

a couple of years ago, only to discover it was the second book. Haven't run across the first one yet, so there it sits on my shelf. This will remind to find Tangent somewhere. Thanks!

8. My only problem with trilogies is spotting volumes 2 and 3 as they come out!

I use the public library heavily, so I don't have volume 1 around to remind me!
