It really bugs me, these infamous mass murders that have never been solved.

Such as:

Burger Chef murders 1978
Yogurt Shop murders. 1991
Springfield Three. 1992.

In some of these cases, where it’s been decades, the chances are the perps are dead, not of old age, but because with their lifestyle it is probable they didn’t live a normal life span. Died from homicide, suicide, OD, committing other crimes.

That some cities have boxes and boxes of untested rape kits.

Unsolved crimes go long enough, and yes--the perp gets away with it because there's always so many new cases.

Took them 10 years to work through the backlog. When Highland Park's police department was dissolved, the station was abandoned and nobody bothered to clean out the evidence cage or armory. The station was looted. There are pictures online of the evidence room ransacked, the armory picked through, and papers, files, fingerprint cards, etc strewn all over the place.
