5-6-12: Wild day in MLB

First baseman Chris Davis of the Orioles pitched two scoreless innings of relief after Baltimore ran out of pitchers, picking up the win as the Baltimore beat Boston 9-6 Sunday in 17 innings. The last position player credited with a victory was catcher Brent Mayne in 2000 when the Rockies beat the Braves in 12 innings.

Albert Pujols hit his first home run of the year for the Angels.

Oakland and Cleveland upset Tampa Bay and Texas to win their respective series.

Matt Latos strikes out 11 in 6 innings as the Reds blank the Pirates 5-0.

And at 8:30 pm EST, it's not over yet.

According to STATS LLC, it was the first major league game since 1925 in which both teams put a position player on the mound.

In all, there were 18 pitchers, the first time since 1918 that as many as 18 had appeared in a game at Fenway. It came just two days after the Sox used seven pitchers and the Orioles six in a 13-inning marathon.

The Braves swept the Rockies in their three game series.

The Marlins begin a nine game road trip by sweeping the Padres and Giants for six straight wins.

The Yankees hit three home runs (one a grand slam by Robinson Cano) to pummel the Royals 10-4.

The Dbacks lost 2 out of 3 to the Mets. Though Rockies weren't so hot. The NL West is certainly struggling against the NL East overall.

That knuckle ball is sure hard to hit on MLB:The Show 11. I take the first pitch every time for two reasons, it is another pitch that tires the pitcher out so hopefully someone takes him out, and he can easily be a ball that I would have swung at.

I'd rather face Lincecum than R.A. Dickey on that game.

The knuckleball just stymies some teams.

I was hoping for a loooong night in Chicago since the Giants start a set against the Dodgers in L.A. tomorrow. Wasn't so lucky, but that plane trip from the midwest will still get them home late.
