Lebron wins his 3rd MVP

http://espn.go.com/nba/truehoop/miamiheat/story/_/id/7920762/report-miami-heat-lebron-james-announced-nba-mvp-saturday

A source close to James confirmed to ESPN.com's Brian Windhorst that the Heat star won the award.

A person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press that James will be announced Saturday as this year's winner of the league's top individual honor, and that he will be formally presented with the trophy by commissioner David Stern on Sunday afternoon before Miami hosts Indiana in Game 1 of an Eastern Conference semifinal series.

Congrats Lebron

I wonder how close it was with Durant...the "buzz" for the longest time was about those two.

It didn't capture the whole graph but on the left is Player Efficiency Rating and on the bottom is MPG - http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/miamiheat/post/_/id/14057/a-visual-lebron-james-mvp-season

The only other player to average 27+PPG, 7.9+ RBG, 6+ APG, and shoot over 53% in one season is Michael Jordan who had 32.5 PPG, 8.0 RPG, 8.0 APG, and shot .538%.

"Heat forward LeBron James’ sterling second season in Miami will result in his third Most Valuable Player Award.

James will be named the NBA’s MVP on Saturday, according to a source.

The MVP competition was expected to be a two-man race between James and Oklahoma City’s Kevin Durant, who said last month that James “deserves all the love [for MVP]. He’s playing phenomenal basketball. I’m just blessed to be in that conversation.”

James, 27, said recently that winning the MVP would be “amazing” but that winning is what motivates him.

“He’s probably as committed as he’s ever been in his career,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said Wednesday.

James finished third in the league in scoring (27.1 per game), fourth in steals (1.85), 11th in field goal percentage, 13th in assists (6.2) and 25th in rebounding (7.9)."

"NBA Most Valuable Player LeBron James is the leading vote-getter for the league's all-defensive team.

Thunder forward Serge Ibaka, Clippers guard Chris Paul, Grizzlies guard Tony Allen and Magic center Dwight Howard join the Heat star on the first team announced Wednesday.

Ibaka and Allen earned first-team honors for the first time.

James totaled 53 points, including 24 first-team votes. He averaged 1.9 steals and 7.9 rebounds as Miami ranked fourth in the league in opponent scoring."

"LeBron James was the leading vote-getter for the All-NBA team, while Kobe Bryant earned his 10th first-team selection, tied for second on the career list.

Bryant, a first-team pick for the seventh straight season, joined Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Elgin Baylor, Bob Cousy, Michael Jordan, Bob Pettit, and Jerry West with 10 selections to the first team. Karl Malone is the leader with 11.

James, who won his third MVP award, received 118 of a possible 120 first-team votes Thursday from a panel of writers and broadcasters. Joining him on the first team were scoring champion Kevin Durant, Clippers point guard Chris Paul and Magic center Dwight Howard."
