In 1990 Jordan refused to campaign for Harvey Gantt against Jesse Helms because "Republicans buy shoes too."

Gantt lost a close race that could have had a different outcome if Jordan had used his power and influence.

It was particularly galling because Helms represented the antithesis of UNC-Chapel Hill and Dean Smith, both of which helped Jordan get to where he was.

A Helms defeat in 1990 would have been a death-blow to the Conservative Movement. There would still be Republicans, but they wouldn't be soooo nasty.

Jordan's failure to act had a genuine impact on people's lives. The Decision just hurt some feelings in Cleveland.

ps: There are other douchey things about Jordan. The only thing I like about him was the customized version of the Air Jordan warm-up suit he had made. Under the logo it said "Air Me", which I thought was kind of clever, although in retrospect it's a bit telling. Everything is about him.
