(9,709 posts)His ERA now 6.08. Through 9 road starts, the ERA is a shocking 8.45. The second highest Giants ERA through 9 away starts in 100 years.
This year, for whatever reason, he has become one of the worst pitchers in MLB. The Giants are 45-36 overall...meaning in non Timmy starts they're 41-23. Having to play that well to make up for Lincecum's failings is not sustainable.

(31,187 posts)And will you please stop throwing Tim under the bus? You vote a struggling shortstop to the ASG but turn your back on a two-time Cy Young award-winner.
While technically that's true. Tim gave up 7 ER in 3.1 IP...he didn't even give the team a chance.
It's sports Auggie. It's not about last year or any other year...for the Giants aren't going to be making the playoffs living off the past. Out of 103 pitchers, Lincecum is currently ranked 101st in ERA. 100th in WHIP.
Quality starts:
Vogelsong: 14
Cain: 11
Bumgarner: 10
Zito: 9
Lincecum: 4
I could go on and on with his numbers. They're horrendous. As is the team's record when he starts. There's obviously a problem, that isn't being worked out. Tim looks just as bad as at the beginning of the year. The entire team is being dragged down. How much longer does this have to go on?
Auggie
(31,187 posts)A long as Cain, MadBum, Vogelsong and Zito are steady they'll stay competitive.
I'll repeat: Tim is filling the role of the fifth starter. If he can give them five to six innings and keep the game close he's doing his job. Granted, last night was a set-back. But the whole team struggled too.
Bochy could juggle the starters after the All-Star game. Tim is scheduled to start this Sunday in Pittsburgh. Bochy could give him 6 to 9 days off with the break. Lincecum could start the 15th in temperate San Francisco or as late as the 18th in steamy Atlanta. Heck, with the extra day off on the 16th Bochy could even start him on the 22nd against the Phillies.
Rest and time to work out the kinks. Maybe what Tim needs.

(9,709 posts)is Lincecum supposedly left a 5 year 120 million deal on the table this past offseason. Imagine the uproar. We would be looking at the possibility of Zito #2. Or maybe Tim is going to return to his former self.
I just don't know what to think anymore. I've wondered about substance abuse for several years. His weight fluctuations are a concern. Maybe rest will help. I do know if Lincecum was pitching anywhere near his usual self, the Giants would have one of the best records in baseball and a nice comfortable lead in the NL West.
Great. now it's 6-3. Washington might just have the best team in the East.

(31,187 posts)I'm really pulling for him.
I don't think it's weed. Pretty frail guy -- maybe he pitched himself out? He certainly wouldn't be the first.
If he has, the question then is, can he adapt his way of pitching and remain semi-productive?
Totally agree about the contract. Though it made little sense to me from Tim's perspective. Maybe he sensed it last year? $22 million + is plenty to retire on in Seattle.

(38,476 posts)We will never forget 'Baby Hueygate' and the snubbing of a deserving Zimmerman.
