Kim's in trouble, and some minor upsets, but nothing of note. I never get how they schedule this...some play second round today, some first, and some who played the first day...like Roger...immediately get 2 days off. The people who schedule this must also schedule the RNC...it makes no sense!

(35,176 posts)I would hate to see her out this early in her last slam.
I am constantly having to check who is playing when and where
I never figured it out either. Need to go see how Haas did, it was 5th set when I realized I was missing Clijsters.

(56,177 posts)He never got his emotions in check...ruined many opportunities that way.
TBF
(36,671 posts)was his birthday yesterday so maybe that finally spurred it.
I'm glad too that he's moving on. I always wanted to like him but found it frustrating that he couldn't pull himself together. Maybe it is just a testament to how much better Federer was 10 years ago. He really was so dominant against the others.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)But even though Roger dominated, a couple others were able to sneak in when he was off...Andy's biggest mistake was getting rid of Brad Gilbert...he got him that US Open title then Andy dumped him...he was never as focused again...if he had been he could have taken advantage of the few Roger lapses to get another Slam or two.
You mean the guy they can't shut the F up about tonight? That guy? pfttt Not exactly heartbroken here but I think I am going to turn the sound off tonight while I watch.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)And it'll probably be a while before another one does.
marmar
(79,741 posts)...... he really has been the face of American men's tennis for the last decade (granted, that's not saying much, considering the abysmal results), and I wish him the best. It's clearly time -- he seems to be going thru the motions and really not trying to improve his game.
TBF
(36,671 posts)but you summed it up perfectly.

(36,671 posts)quite obnoxious as a teen apparently - at one point his father took away his racket for 6 months because he had such a bad temper. I'm giving him room to grow a little ...
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)He was pretty young and his mother took his racket away...about 6 months I think also...he never said a bad word again.
MuseRider
(35,176 posts)that someone (one of the sports casters McEnroe or someone) heard from Federer. I guess he really did have quite and attitude and temper when he was younger. They were walking out after a match, Roger and his father, Roger had apparently had a nasty temper during the match. His father reached over and grabbed him and shoved him head first into a snowbank. I chuckle about that now and then. Even if it is not so it is pretty funny.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)It went 5 and Roger won 7-5 in the fifth...it was the changing of the guard and even the commentators noted that. Roger fell to the ground on match point but then jumped up quickly, knowing he shouldn't keep Sampras waiting...apparently the snowbank incident worked!
I stayed with Agassi as my favorite until he retired but was ready to switch my favorite over to Federer. How can you not like a guy who is gifted a cow by the leader of their country and then turns around and takes it to a farmer and told the farmer he would support it until it died of natural causes. My kind of guy!
A snowbank, cracks me up. Cooled off his hot head for all time I think.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)Roger really is a softie...he was crying after he beat Sampras he was so overcome by the magnitude of his win.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)Not much happening yet...no surprises...watched a little of the Hewitt-Ferrer match...Lleyton is very inconsistent...I was sort of rooting for Ferrer since he MIGHT give Djoker a good match...MIGHT, mind you. The women haven't played yet and this side of the draw is a lot tougher than the other side.
MuseRider
(35,176 posts)He is at least fun to watch.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)But I don't think he'll ever break into the top 3...he just doesn't have what the other guys have.
I know you don't like Roddick...I was rooting for Fabio...WAY cuter!
MuseRider
(35,176 posts)I doubt Ferrer can either, he is 30 now I think. Still, I do like him. He has fire and works hard.
I think Roddick is a show off, an ass much of the time. I wanted to like him, I did at first but after that French Open cramping incident I gave up and knew he was just going to showboat his way through everything. Just to qualify, I know how painful they are but damn. At least Sampras just gave up the jumping around and puked!
Ya know, I thought for a moment when Connors was his coach he might just turn around. I wondered how those egos would work. It seemed to help but only briefly.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)downfall...I don't know why, but he got him to the top so Andy should have put his ego aside and deal with what he needed to stay on top...he wasted a career because of that.
MuseRider
(35,176 posts)I had forgotten that Brad Gilbert had coached him!
joeybee12

joeybee12
(56,177 posts)Fish pulled out, so Roger is through to the quarters, as is Berdych...Ana won and Serena's was embarrassing. Errani is looking tough...I like her...she looks like she should get blown away by the bigger players, but she is a very smart player.

Radwanska, they are starting in just a moment. I like her.
EDIT Heh Heh not too late to edit...........I had to go practice a bit, came back to a first set loss 1/6 Well maybe I will not like watching this today!
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)She's one of the ones I think is going to break through, and does well, then loses matches she should easily win.
I hope Mardy is ok.
MuseRider
(35,176 posts)not what I expected.
I hope Mardy is OK too. I have never really followed him but he must have really felt bad to do this when he was doing so well. It is good for Fed though.
I also kinda like this kid that Murray just beat, Raonic. I had never seen him before this open. He seems a scrapper.
For someone like me who really only watches the big slams it seems there are a lot of new faces. Great for the sport.
I like Andy Murray a lot more than I used to.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)She doesn't have to play Petra now...she should easily beat Bartoli into the semis.
As for Murray, I dislike him more and more these days.
Raonic is one of those young guys they say is going to break through...not seeing that yet, although I wish it had happened yesterday!
marmar
(79,741 posts)...... like it is somehow related to his heart issue, so I hope he's OK. Mardy Fish is hardly my favorite player, I've seen him act like a jerk and snatch towels from ball kids way too often, but I do hope he's able to return healthy.
TBF
(36,671 posts)especially considering that recent heart surgery, but I have to admit to being happy that Roger gets an extra day off. Can't hurt ...

marmar
(79,741 posts)....... I'm amazed that she can play so well and stay ranked near the Top 10. I love watching her matches though.....She's such a fireball.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)But they're going to try to get the men in...I'm in CT and the weather is supposed to be miserable tomorrow, so we shall see.

(79,741 posts)...... Last year's quarters and semis were a joke with all the wind.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)But then there's the French...I recall sh*tty weather in NY for the Open more often than not.
MuseRider
(35,176 posts)so far as to not wanting to watch her. She just seems so out of form and too heavy, although better now, to be a top 10 ever but damn that woman can play. Now I kinda like watching her. Have not seen her even once this year but always enjoy the fireballs out there. It is good to see someone not in the form of the day being successful. I was amazed to see how far she got.

(79,741 posts)....... Ferrer is tough as nails. I feel bad for Janko. He played a great match.
PS - Is it wrong to hope Brad Gilbert and Pam Shriver get stranded on an island somewhere? I don't know which one of them is the most shrill and annoying.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)Chris was trying to engage her somewhat with stuff like, "Don't you think," etc to get her opinion on what Chris was saying...she would respond with something completely different...wonder if they've had a tiff.
As for Janko, not sure if he would have given Djoker a better match than David...I still hope Del Potro wins tonight, but it's not looking good.
marmar
(79,741 posts)And I really think he's going to defend his title.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)Spread it around a little since Roger is out...I think we're sort of looking at the end now...he was playing well up until that match...he's 31 and he loses his focus now...happens after 30...he might win another slam, but probably not.
marmar
(79,741 posts)....... I've seen him drift off for a set or two, then get it back when he needed it. But he couldn't do that against Berdych. ...... I honestly think he'll win one more slam, especially with Rafa's iffy status, but yeah, the days of multiple slams in one year are done.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)Tomas is much better than Benneateau...
I think his best bet is the next Wimbledon or even the Australian
Gonna suck when he does retire...there's no one out there I like...may not watch again for a few years.
TBF
(36,671 posts)definitely Wimbledon again. He could win one or two more. At one point I was hoping he'd get closer to Steffi's 22 & golden slam but that's not gonna happen ...
On the other hand though I'm thrilled he's still playing so I have someone to watch. Andy bowed out quickly without fanfare and it worries me that he could just up and quit. I have the same problem of not really having anyone else I enjoy watching. I'll probably watch some of the US Open final if there's a chance the winner can beat Joker. Maybe this is Murray's chance to get himself a slam.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)And I think Murray's best chance is at Wimbledon, although I think it won't be next year since Roger wants to break his tie with Pete...wish Roger could have won the Open, and he still might, but that's getting harder for him.
marmar
(79,741 posts)Djoker seems to have found his mojo.
MuseRider
(35,176 posts)because I have missed so much of this! With my husband's post heart surgery appointments in various cities and his rehab appointments and at the same time with a puppy in the ICU at the vet hospital in a town in the opposite direction of all of those I have just not been able to watch much. When I am home I am doing the chores and not getting to see much
Thank you all for the commentary so that I know a little more than just the scores I see.
to all of you!
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)MuseRider
(35,176 posts)I just like to complain! My puppy and husband are the one's suffering. I just am upset missing the tennis all year.
Still, I wanted to say that because I have at least a feel for what was going on. Otherwise the scores only tell part of the story.
Grabbing a bit of Murray as I do some things that needed doing a month ago, lol. I just hate watching him. I don't really know why. His game is certainly not pretty, his demeanor is not either. Maybe it is the combo of those two things. I admire the progress he has made and it was less difficult to watch him in the Olympics, he really had some fire there. I was actually kinda glad to see him win that. Dunno. He is just not easy for me to watch.
***BTW my puppy came home last night. He will be on steroids for 6 months and perhaps his entire life and will always be susceptible to this type of meningitis. It was rough going for a while. Scary. Everyone is glad he is home except the cats
How is little Ashley? Not little anymore but you know what I mean.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)a nice long life.
Ashley just turned one...I gave him September 1 as his birthday, assuming he was 6 weeks when I got him, so I counted back. He is still a kitten, driving everyone else crazy!
As for Murray, I dislike him more and more...he really does have a crappy attitude...never any class on court. I think his mother is a real piece of work so that explains him. Don't know who to root for in the other semi...I would have definitely been rooting for David had Tomas won, but now I still want David to win, but Djoker has a better chance of beating Murray, and that's the lesser of 2 evils...this really should have been Roger's tournament.
TBF
(36,671 posts)hope puppy gets better and there are fewer appts as your husband heals. Personally I think you should let the housework go for a couple hours today, settle down with a glass of wine, and watch one of the SF matches
((hugs))
MuseRider
(35,176 posts)Sending kisses to you for that!
I am fine, tired and at times a little petulant about going non-stop and never getting a break. It is my husband and sweet puppy that have been doing all the suffering. This too shall pass but it has killed every slam this year
. There is always another year and quite frankly I am not sad to have missed the Federer loss.
I am going to absolutely try to get at least the Ferrer match today. I like him. I think he most probably will be ground into bits but he won't let that happen without at least a scrappy fight. That is what I like most about him, he is a scrapper and fun to watch, they both are so it should be fun. Wonder what this wind will do to the outcome? Catching bits of the Murray match and it looks like a terrible fight just to get the ball into the right court.
TBF
(36,671 posts)just making sure you take some breaks too!
I like Ferrer too. He has been doing really well this year. I don't see him beating Djoker, but stranger things have happened. I'd even watch the final if he makes it
MuseRider
(35,176 posts)Plan to watch the Ferrer match while cleaning the kitchen and cooking so YAY! I also do not see him winning this one but as you said, you never know. The wind will decide a bit of it I am certain. It should be fun even if a rout.
TBF
(36,671 posts)while reading (muted) ... and just glanced up to see umbrellas again. I think we may need a stadium with a roof for this tournament.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)lousy men's final...who do I dislike more? Poor David.
TBF
(36,671 posts)well that sucks. If I watch I'll be rooting for Andy because I don't want Djoker to get another one. Also I want him to get as few points as possible.
RockaFowler
(7,429 posts)This last set is so annoying
marmar
(79,741 posts)So close. Serena's will is extraordinary (and having the greatest serve in the history of women tennis doesn't hurt, either). Azarenka's ground game is awesome -- she just needs to improve her serve some. I see multiple slams in her future.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)I'm sorry, but there's no reason for the screaming...even on the serve.
TBF
(36,671 posts)I just turned on the live stream and they are in the 5th set. Go Andy! Keep Djoker from winning this and getting more points! Go Andy Go!
(my way of rooting for Federer even when he's not playing) <3
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)Djoker loses points because he won it all last year...Roger lost points because he made it to the semis last year, so the Open is a wash...he's in good shape to finish the year at #1.
Congrats Andy, now go away.
