What's annoyed me is that every article I've seen on it meanders into why the writer thinks winning the triple crown doesn't mean he should be MVP... or why WAR or other statistics are more meaningful than BA and RBI.

Whatever happened to simply acknowledging a great accomplishment?

If he played for the Yankees, or almost any other East Coast team (or Chicago) the sports writers would've anointed him MVP in August. But, he plays for a distressed city that's going through hard times so they've been hoping against hope that someone from a more glamorous city would come on enough to take it away from him.

It has to do with the fact that the Tigers aren't one of the large market/costal teams. Even if Detroit were doing fantastic right now, it still wouldn't have registered with the major sports media.

The only teams that REALLY matter are the Spankmes and BoTox. Tier 2 is for the Dodgers, Angels, that sort of thing.

Teams in the AL Central? Irrelevant.

So awesome. I finally got to see a Triple Crown winner!

Now, if only I can see one in Horse Racing.
