It was the one time we got along as kids. Beautiful memories...

We lived in the Detroit suburbs and the game was not on the usual CBC station in Windsor but a UHF station we could barely pull in. We spent a lot of time fussing with the antenna! So my memories of the game are not of the Al Michaels call but fuzzy images of Tretiak's shocking blunder at the end of the first period.

When it was over I asked my father whether he knew anyone gullible enough to accept a wager on the game. But we settled for calling relatives and telling them they HAD to watch the Olympics coverage that evening.

Also in Detroit, the local anchorman blurted out the score during a news break in ABC's broadcast. There was a lot of outrage over the spoiler that nevertheless didn't bother me.
