2011 #1 draft pick Gerrit Cole to debut for Pirates

Guy threw a 97 mph fastball in high school. He was drafted by the Yankees but opted to play in college for UCLA.

Bruins coach John Savage compares Cole's domination of the PAC 10 to that of former Washington starter Tim Lincecum. Ironically, Cole will face Lincecum tonight in Pittsburgh.

Expect Cole to throw Radio Balls.

A Radio Ball is so fast, you can only hear it.

he pitched pretty well in spring training and alot of fans thought he should have made the team from the start.

Hopefully he'll pitch well enough to stay in the rotation when Wandy comes back.

That's why he was sent down for a couple months, has to do with future arbitration and such. Same thing happened with Strasburg.

If they don't want Wandy I bet the Nats would be interested.

but I think due to the timing, Pittsburgh may end up losing that year of arbitration eligibility. I'm not sure though.

Wandy's hurt right now. He might end up on the 15 day due to arm soreness. They lost Gomez who replaced MacDonald who's been pretty ineffective this year and was sent down. If he would have gotten his act together, Cole would still be down in Triple A. I think Charlie Morton will also be called up to round out the rotation for the next couple of weeks.
