20 Ways the World Was Very Different the Last Time the Pittsburgh Pirates Missed the Playoffs

The Pittsburgh Pirates are a postseason regular. But years ago, way back in 2012, this franchise was one of the worst in sports. How much in the world has changed since then? Let’s take a look …

1. The Pittsburgh Steelers were coming off of consecutive trips to the postseason.

2. The United States did not have any military involvement in Iraq.

3. Matthew McConaughey was not a respected actor.

4. LeBron James was despised in Cleveland.

5. Lance Armstrong was one of the most beloved and respected athletes in American sports history.

6. No one liked the Pope.

7. It was illegal to smoke marijuana in Colorado.

8. Johnny Manziel was an unknown college quarterback.

9. People who thought the government was listening to their calls and reading their e-mails were considered to be crackpots.

10. Everyone had only seen Kate Upton 99% naked, not 100% naked.

11. Most Americans weren’t up on Toronto mayoral politics.

12. There was a sports team called the Charlotte Bobcats.

13. The average sports fan thought Roger Goodell was good at his job.

14. The Duchess of Cambridge was barren.

15. People in power being racist, homophobic and misogynistic was much more widely accepted.

16. Joe Flacco was pre-ELITE instead of post-ELITE.

17. A store called Blockbuster, which rented DVDs to people, was open across the country.

18. Ryan Braun was not a total scumbag, but the victim of an evil courier.

19. There was little in the world more popular than the song “Gangnam Style.”

20. Derek Jeter was thought to be humble and was not one of the worst players in baseball.

Somebody actually thinks DJ is one of the worst baseball players? With his career of having over 3K base hits?

12. There still is a team called the Charlotte Bobcats, but back then I don't think there was one called the New Orleans Pelicans.

4. Prime example of rooting for the laundry instead of the player.
