Updated sex assault lawsuit alleges Jerry Jones tried to buy woman’s silence
A woman who is accusing Jerry Jones of sexual assault claims in an updated lawsuit that the Dallas Cowboys owner tried to buy her silence with regular payments over four years.
It is unclear how much allegedly was paid to Jana Weckerly, a 27-year-old former exotic dancer from Ardmore, Okla.
The new allegation sets up a showdown in a pivotal hearing scheduled Friday before Judge Dale Tillery, who presides over the 134th District Court in Dallas. Attorneys representing Jones have previously denied the claims and argue the case falls outside the five-year civil statute of limitations in Texas.
Based on the new claim, Dallas defense attorney Thomas Bowers appears prepared to argue that alleged payments by Jones, and perhaps the Cowboys, qualify for an exemption from that provision of the law.
