Former NBA star Charles Barkley criticized a new state law in Indiana on Friday as being anti-gay and because of that, Barkley believes the state should not be allowed to host big sporting events such as the Final Four next week in Indianapolis.
Barkley is serving as an analyst FOR the NCAA tournament again this year for CBS/Turner. He issued a statement about the law to Sports Illustrated on Friday.
Discrimination in any form is unacceptable to me," Barkley said. "As long as anti-gay legislation exists in any state, I strongly believe big events such as the Final Four and Super Bowl should not be held in those states cities.

He's right, but it's the Republican Party that he always praises that is responsible for sh*t like this.

(29,346 posts)I remember Game 5 in Phoenix, TNT studios are there in front of the crowd & arena & at the height of SB1070 he rips the bill to loud cheers. Chris Webber & Kenny "the Jet" ripped the law but Chuck was the first one. I'll never forget that he did that & kudos to Webber & "the Jet" for ripping a bill sponsored by my former State Senator. The same who was President of the Senate (Russell Pearce) at-the-time & also endorsed JT Ready.

part of the "fabric of our community" were Barkley's words.

(6,300 posts)I just did a little googling as I remember when his name was floated for a run for governor as a Republican a while back. He says he might vote Republican for president in 2016 but it would also be for the first time. He also said he was a Republican "until they lost their minds."
He's just a bit of a loose cannon in his political commentary (just as he is with his sports commentary).
