Five years after she threw a punch in Lubbock that watched more than a million times on YouTube, Brittney Griner got in another fight Wednesday night and ended up in jail.
Griner, former Baylor center and current star of the defending champion WNBA Phoenix Mercury, was arrested along with her fiancee, Glory Johnson, on suspicion of assault and disorderly conduct.
Officers arrested Griner and Johnson, who plays for the Tulsa Shock, after a fight between the couple turned physical at their home in suburban Phoenix, Goodyear police spokeswoman Lisa Kutis told the Associated Press. No weapons were involved, and neither woman required hospital care for their minor injuries, Kutis said.
They were released around 4 a.m. Thursday morning. Agents for the players did not immediately respond to requests for comment Thursday.

(56,177 posts)Coach Pokemon is a dirty coach and her players are dirty. Tried to support Griner since she came out, but the league should take a hard stance on this.

(14,176 posts)I saw these two on Say Yes to the Dress a couple months ago, when they went to buy a dress for Ms Johnson. Ms Griner seemed a wee bit controlling on the show, but I never expected this from them.

(29,322 posts)because I usually don't know the cases are usually handled or what factors they look at to charge both. The only other case I was aware of that I know the conclusion is both plead guilty (plea deal in misdemeanor court -- neither has a public defender unless the prosecutor is requesting jail time).
When it comes to standard the rules are typically simple & it is very unusual for both to be charged with assault because you are allowed to defend yourself.
Here is what I mean
Self-defense
a threat of unlawful force or harm against them;
a real, honest perceived fear of harm to themselves (there must be a reasonable basis for this perceived fear);
no harm or provocation on their part; and
there was no reasonable chance of retreating or escaping the situation.

It kinda confuses me when two people are charged with "domestic violence" when I pretty much never see for it assault.

(3,813 posts)Each claims the other started it, there's no clear evidence one way or the other, and they both have similar injuries. Arrest them both and let the DA sort it out later.
