BOSTON -- A woman has suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck by a broken bat during the Athletics-Red Sox game at Fenway Park, a Boston Police Department spokesperson told the Boston Globe.
The fan, who was bleeding from the head, was carried off on a stretcher after the top of the second inning of Friday night's game. She was hit when Oakland's Brett Lawrie broke his bat on a groundout to second base for the second out of the inning. The victim was sitting with her husband and son at the time, the spokesperson told the Globe.
After the third out, the game was delayed while the fan was tended to in the stands between home plate and the third base dugout. She was wheeled off on the stretcher for further treatment, and there was no immediate report on the extent of her injury.

(78,249 posts)This has happened at least once before, at Dodger Stadium. If ash was good enough for Babe Ruth, it's good enough for some obscure utility infielder.
And why is an A's player using them? Clearly it's not helping him, as he grounded out to the Sox.

(10,893 posts)I always choose either outfield seats or seats behind home plate. That was rotten luck for that lady. I hope she survives and makes it out fine.
