A-Roid passes Barroid for second on all-time RBIs list
New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez hit career RBI 1,997 Friday and passed Barry Bonds for sole possession of second place on Major League Baseball's all-time RBIs list, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
Rodriguez roped a 22 pitch from Los Angeles Angels pitcher Jered Weaver into right field to score Brett Gardner and give New York a 50 lead.
Baseball-Reference, which counts RBIs recorded before 1920 when they were unofficially kept by a sports writer from the New York Press named Ernie Lanigan, offers a different view of Rodriguez's precise all-time RBIs standing.
A player in the late 1800s for the Chicago White Stockings, Cap Anson, had 2,075 RBIs according to Baseball-Reference, while Babe Ruth had 2,214.
If one were to count Ruth and Anson's records, Rodriguez's RBI Friday would have put him into fourth place, not second, all time.
