Related: About this forumOK, let's do this: Super Bowl predictions here.
Me: Patriots lose by two scores. And no, that's not an attempt at reverse voodoo. The idea that the Giants are underdogs is preposterous.

(68,644 posts)And have the funny shaped ball.
Why is that ball so funny shaped?
It can't hardly roll right... Not even a ball, really, not in shape.

Close game, 27-24

(60,364 posts)When the Pats are on, they're on.
When they're not hot, they're (really) not hot.
The only reason they're in the SB is because Billy Cundiff missed a very doable field goal.

(16,113 posts)We could easily be watching a 49ers-Ravens SB.

(531 posts)Missed field goals are often game-deciders. It's just part of the sport.
As far as this game goes, I just hope it's not a blowout one way or the other.

(13,447 posts)I grew up a Niners fan and then adopted the Ravens as my second team when I moved to Maryland.
Turns out if you're supporting 50% of the remaining four teams, there's still a 50% chance the OTHER teams can win. LOL!
So now I just want to see a good game. I couldn't give a shit for who actually wins.
PDittie
(8,322 posts)I don't know about two scores unless it's two field goals. I think Belichick is a stinkin' genius, especially when he has two weeks to come up with a scheme, but the Pats sill don't measure up on that side of the ball.
The New York Football Giants' defense is the difference. I'll go 23-20.
Auggie
(31,156 posts)I agree with PDittie. By a field goal. With defense making the difference.

(20,616 posts)claiming that the uncertainty is harmful to democracy, and rather than letting the game play out according to clearly established rules, declare by a 5-4 vote that the Patriots are the winners, adding that this decision is not to be taken as a precedent for any future decisions.

(11,586 posts)mainly the Giants D against Tom Brady.
The real story is going to be the giants offense (with Bradshaw and Nicks healthy, they didn't play last time these teams met) against a very ordinary patriots defense. The Pats don't match up well at all in their secondary against the giants receivers. This game looks to me like the Giants/Packers game - unless Brady plays the game of his life and eli doesn't, this might not even be close.
WilliamPitt
(58,179 posts)Manningham, Nicks and Cruz are terrifying, and Manning is playing out of his brains. Our secondary is going to get shredded.

(3,944 posts)I really can't go wrong this time around, much like in 2008.
Objectively, I give the Giants a slight edge - 3 or 4 points.

(41,692 posts)two field goals, a field goal and a touchdown, or two touchdowns....
So:
4 points
5 points
9 points
6 points
10 points
14 points
Yeah I know---I could have done a two point conversion calculation. Fuck that....
BTW: You're a candy ass for picking against your own team.

(29,322 posts)I do play Auggie's pool and I'll likely pick the Giants in that depending on where the spread is but the reason why I'm posting is I think it will be a close game. Giant's playoff D is terrific but had some problems w/ Vernon Davis and Tom Brady is the king at hitting the TE. Of course I feel Manning will burn the Pat's secondary but I feel they will be a bit one dimensional, Giants won't abandon the running game but at 3.5 YPC season average the Pat's run D is actually quite good. Holding to Ray Rice to just 21 rushing yards in the first half in last week's game.
However it is also possible each team could blow the other out, you have to account for bad bounces, tipped balls, special teams, luck, etc.

(32 posts)I predict the half time show will suck big time. I predict that in 3 months I will totally forget who was in the superbowl. I predict too much hype before the show. I predict people will complain about the national anthem no matter how it sounds.
Patriots 33
Giants 28

(78,249 posts)East Rutherford sleazed into the playoffs at 9-7, then watched as the two best teams in the NFC choked to them.
The best team in the AFC better not choke to them, too.

(15,369 posts)John Bergmann, general manager of Popcorn Park Zoo in Lacey Township N.J. scratches the next of Princess, a Bactrian camel famous for her ability to correctly predict the winner of football games, on Thursday Jan. 26, 2012, one day after Princess picked the New York Giants to beat the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl. Princess makes her "picks" by choosing one of two graham crackers Bergmann holds out to her, with each cracker corresponding to one of the teams involved in the game. She's 88-51 lifetime, and predicted the winners of five of the last six Super Bowls.
Me, I don't care. (Truthfully, I would love to see the Giants lose.) See you next year, when the 49ers go all the way!

ObaMania
(2,054 posts)It will be tough because they are playing a Manning in the House of Manning and pressure will be on them with the whole "rematch" hype, but I'm thinking they'll pull it off based on the following criteria:
1. Redskins beat the Giants 2x in regular season
2. Pats beat the Redskins in regular season
3. Pats don't normally lose to teams twice in one season (regular and post combined)
4. Pats have alot of weapons on offense. Gronk is a beast!
With that in mind, Brady has to have the game of his life and not "suck" as he put it last week. Historically, Brady comes off of bad games with better performances, but who knows? Also, the D has to keep pressure on Manning and their secondary has to step up and make key plays.
The Pats have to score something on at least 80% of their possessions and not throw interceptions. And for God's sake Tom, don't throw on second down in the red zone. Pound the damn thing in with Woodie and BenJarvus.
Pats 27-20

(22,143 posts)I'll vomit if I have to witness the stinking Giants win another Super Bowl. Unfortunately, they match up really well against New England. Pats in a squeaker 27-24.
