Tulane to fire coach Curtis Johnson after regular-season finale vs. Tulsa
Tulane football coach Curtis Johnson will be fired after Friday's regular-season finale against Tulsa, multiple sources at the school with knowledge of the situation confirmed Wednesday night. The sources spoke on the condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to speak publicly about the move.
Tulane players have not been told of the decision, the sources said.
Johnson, a former receivers coach for the New Orleans Saints, was hired in 2012 in his first job as a head coach. He is 15-33 since taking over at Tulane, including 6-17 the past two seasons. His best season was a 7-5 mark in 2013 in which he led the Green Wave to the New Orleans Bowl, the school's first postseason appearance in 11 years. Tulane, however, fell to UL-Lafayette, 24-21.
Two sources also said they expect an announcement about the school's new athletic director next week. Rick Dickson, who hired Johnson, announced his retirement in September.
