(1,607 posts)1. Should be interesting....
....the Preakness holds a special place in my heart. It is probably the only TC race I would actually attend and it is on my bucket list.
The first horse I ever really followed was Meadow Stable's Riva Ridge. I was sure he was going to win the Triple Crown and had talked my father into letting me bet him in the Derby with the local bookie. Preakness week rolled around and it rained all week. Pimlico was a muddy mess on Saturday. Riva hated the mud. Longshot local horse, Bee Bee Bee, won that day with Riva finishing 4th, I believe. Of course, Riva rolled in the Belmont. The next year Meadow Stable's Secretariat finally ended the TC drought.

(78,249 posts)2. I grew up in Bawlmer, but never made it to Pimlico.
Question: Why can't racetracks be covered with tarps the way baseball infields are? Yes, I know the surface area is much bigger, but still...

(1,607 posts)3. Running races every 20 minutes...
really wouldn't do much good. They seal the track with a roller between races instead.
