(33,311 posts)and Samardzija would have faced the 2, 3, and 4 hitters. Maybe Blach, but he threw 28 pitches the night before. Where was Kontos?
You could see this coming as far back as June. Romo, Casilla and Lopez weren't the same. I've been wondering if Matt Cain or Jake Peavy had been able to fill a starting role that the resources needed to get Moore could have gotten someone like Andrew Miller or Aroldis Chapman. The Yankees wanted Joe Panik for Miller, but Evans and Sabean couldn't let go. Since Panik was much of a non-entity for the second half of the year you have to wonder if Tomlinson could have covered for him. I like Panik, but keeping him might have cost us another trip to the World Series.
So I guess Romo, Casilla and Lopez could be let go as free agents. Pagan? Great player, but those injuries -- missed two playoff games with back spasms! With Peavy leaving the collected payroll savings for those five is about $47,000,000. Add in Blanco and it's about $51M. They could go after Chapman, who will be a free agent in 2017, and have plenty left over.

(78,249 posts)So how come they all looked like they got cut from AAA Sac and got on the wrong bus going to AT&T instead of single-A San Jose?!
