My son looked good to me. It's much different for someone employed full-time who fights in the amateurs to "peak" on fight-night, compared to a world champion in the pro ranks. But I've trained fighters for both pro- and amateur bouts, and feel good about my son's chances.

He mentioned another fight card next Friday. Very unlikely, as the GG are the next day. Young people!

...in complete contrast to my inner nature: I hope your son beats the shit out of his opponent.

Trusting in his bloodline I'll assume every punch thrown will be for the public good.

Much appreciated!

My son recently graduated from Binghamton University, and is employed as a social worker. The apple didn't fall very far there -- or with his siblings. A couple local politicians have taken an interest in his boxing, which is nice. (One told me my boy should run for office, as he is "eye candy," which cracked me up. He is considering a run for state office in the future.)

We are on the 24-hour countdown now. I remind him of something Rubin Carter used to tell me: every time you get in the ring to kick another man's ass, remember your own is right behind you."

4. The judges' decision

went to the home-town's top fighter. And deservedly so. My son ended up fighting an undefeated guy who had 25 lbs on him, and almost took him out in the third. Ah, boxing.
