Eli Manning's consecutive starts streak ends at 210. Enter Geno Smith!

Geno Smith gets the ball against the Raiders this weekend while Eli rides the bench for the struggling Giants.

The New York Giants are benching quarterback Eli Manning, and Geno Smith will start this week against the Oakland Raiders.

Manning has started 210 consecutive regular season games for the Giants, the second-longest streak by a quarterback in NFL history, behind Brett Favre's 297. He has started every Giants game since Nov. 21, 2004, when he took over for veteran Kurt Warner in his rookie season.

Coach Ben McAdoo made the announcement Tuesday. Rookie Davis Webb will also play before the end of the season, if not this week.

"Geno will start this week," McAdoo said. "Over the last five games, we will take a look at Geno, and we will also give Davis an opportunity."

There are a few teams that might make a bid for Eli's services. The Jaguars are a possibility. Maybe even Peyton's former team in Denver might make an inquiry. Maybe the Dolphins too? Or the Bears to give Trubisky a mentor?

Have you seen him run. Credit the best bluffer in the game Tyranny Mathieu for that game pick but it was him why they were in the game rather than the #1 pass defense in the game. Plus he has years ahead of him and there's not that many quarterbacks to go around.

This is an "off" season for Manning and yet his numbers are still superior to Bortles. Both after 11 games played:

Eli Manning
247 completions
62.5% completion %
2,411 yards
TDs 14
Int 7
Yards/game 219
QB rating 84.1

Blake Bortles
203 completions
58.3 completion %
2,244 yards
TDs 12
Int 8
Yards/game 204
QB rating 79.5

8. Where is yards per pass attempt?

That is my main stat but at this Blake Borters has many years ahead why would they replace him with Manning? Blake Bottles can run too.

Every year lately is an off year, I'd just rather of Bottles. On edit this is actually an up year for Manning. 9.76

Bortlesis 11 I think my numbers are off.

On edit I double checked his yards divided by 203 and get 11. Same with Manning divided by 247. I saw Bottles play recently no reason to replace him they are set.

Yards per pass is per pass attempt, not per completion. A value of 11 would be incredibly high. Guy goes 20 for 30 for 330 yards, and high yards per pass is 11.

So, using the numbers provided in that other post i get Manning at 6.1 Yds/PA, and Bortles at 6.44. About one yard for every three pass attempts. Statistically significant but in practice doesn't probably mean much, since for both of them, 2 passes is a first down.

Geno Smith wasn't horrible -- 21 for 34, 212 yards, 1 TD, 0 Int, 89.3 QB rating -- but it wasn't enough as the Raiders prevailed 24-14.

Meanwhile Manning says he won't retire. But where he'll play in 2018 is a mystery...

Giants fire coach Ben McAdoo, GM Jerry Reese in midst of lost season

The New York Giants cleaned house on Monday, firing coach Ben McAdoo and general manager Jerry Reese in the midst of a 2-10 season.

McAdoo told ESPN's Chris Mortensen in a text message Monday morning that he was out after two seasons on the job. Giants co-owner John Mara confirmed the changes in a news conference Monday afternoon.

Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo will be the interim head coach, while Kevin Abrams will be the Giants' interim general manager, Mora announced. A search for Reese's full-time replacement will begin immediately, and it will be led by former Giants general manager Ernie Accorsi, Mara said.

Mara said he and co-owner Steve Tisch met and "agreed it was pointless to wait any longer to make these changes."

"This has been the perfect storm this season,'' Mara said. "Everything that could have gone wrong this season has gone wrong.'
