Will there ever be another Larry Centers?

He was a pass catching fullback who caught 99 passes in a season holds the career record for most catches by a running back but he is actually a fullback. I was thinking of this after hearing the 49ers fullback has 26 catches this year.

Plus people don't check it down as often as they did in the 90s which was a huge part of Centers success.

Call me old fashioned. But when it’s working it’s beautiful to watch.

have to score on every possession type game. FB are used primarily to block for the RB and grind out yards. In today's game the offense has to move the ball in chunks down the field. The FB has been replaced by the extra WR or the pass catching TE.

I remember watching the last game that year. It was a Monday night game on Christmas day (back when they had a monday night game the last week of the season). The Cardinals were out of it, playing Dallas, and they basically just fed Centers to get over 100. No knock against Centers, I just remember it because it was a weird night.
