Hey, Warren Moon made his mark in the CFL first!!! Doug Flutie tore it up in the CFL after failing to stick in the NFL.
The CFL announced Thursday it would approve a contract for Manziel should it be negotiated with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, who hold Manziels rights.
In August, the former Heisman Trophy winner worked out for the Ticats, who passed on making him an offer. But Manziels camp activated Hamiltons 10-day window, forcing the CFL club to make a decision on whether to sign, trade or release him.
The CFL then stepped in and extended the window for further evaluation.
The following month, Manziel met with commissioner Randy Ambrosie to discuss a resolution, which included Manziel having to fulfil certain requirements to join the league. Shortly aftewards, the CFL announced the Ticats would hold Manziels rights until Nov. 30 before extending it again into January to continue with its due diligence.

(65,031 posts)With his size and arm strength, the smaller, not quite as fast defenders was better for him. Aside from all his personal foibles, he was never going to make it in the NFL.

The article at this link lists several examples of guys with criminal records who made the trip north of 60 to join a CFL squad.

(1,384 posts)Johnny has a violent thing going on, girlfriends etc... doubt he would last 3 seconds in the CFL, linemen may be smaller, but they are wicked fast... many US college players do well in the CFL, especially QB's, thing is they're smart. something Johnny seems to lack.

(17,304 posts)If they can protect him enough he might actually excel at the CFL game with his ability to scramble and the bigger playing field than the NFL.

(1,384 posts)Angelo Mosca, he played on the D line.... he could come out of retirement, the Argos hold Lou Ferrigno's rights, maybe he could come back and protect Johnny...

(17,304 posts)Manziel announced Saturday on Twitter that he has decided to sign his contract with the CFL's Hamilton Tiger-Cats, who own the Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback's rights.
The Tiger-Cats announced later Saturday that Manziel signed a two-year deal.
"It's going to be a learning curve," Manziel said in an interview with Barstool Sports. "I think it'll be fun. It's definitely not the NFL, but there have been guys who've gone up there and have come back. A lot more [at] the quarterback position that have done it back in the day than they have done it more recently, but still there's been guys who've recently come back and forth all the time."

(17,304 posts)in a five-player deal...
Manziel, 25, never saw the field with Hamilton, which has been led by quarterback Jeremiah Masoli. Masoli tied a CFL record with nine straight 300-yard passing games before the team's Week 5 bye.
In Montreal, Manziel will be reunited with coach Mike Sherman, who recruited Manziel to Texas A&M in 2011, when Sherman was head coach of the Aggies.
