Most of my italian is from the far south and sicily, but i've spent some time in Milan and Florence and they say that there too.

7. It's The British Open

I looked that up this weekend. It was called the Open Championship when it started. The R&A themselves changed it to the British Open 4 or 5 years after the best players in the world started going to the US to play in the US Open. (Think Vardon and Ray in the open won by Ouimet.)

The reversion to the name "The Open Championship" started only a few years.

It's pompous nonsense, as the "THE" Ohio State University.

The PGA tour still refers to it as the British Open in their official stats.

9. Sorry. You're Wrong

The R&A started marketing in the US as "The Open Championship" in 2012.

They can call it what they want over there, but their television partners called it the British Open, and the radio and print folks, all the way back to Bobby Jones, referenced it as the British Open.

You do understand the the TV people are PARTNERS. They didn't object to any coverage carrier calling the British Open until they made a marketing change in 2012.
