So annoying...what ever happened to the just the sound of screeching tennis shoes and the ball bouncing. It’s like she can’t hit the ball without the drama of effort.......always have it on mute when she’s on the court. Or is it just me??

It's unnecessary and horrible. She is NOT grunting out of physical exertion, the way Nadal does. She is making a screeching noise after hitting the ball. I can't listen it hurts my ears.

When a player screams while hitting the ball the opposing player can't hear how the ball is coming off the racket. Seems like an unfair advantage.

Not sure an opponent is necessarily entitled to clearly hear that. Of course, the opponent is free to grunt strategically as well....

Supposedly you can hit it harder when you grunt, though I've never heard any explanation as to why.
