Tim Tebow moving to Triple A ball in 2019!

Dear Brother Buzz, I hope you read this with a huge grin on your face. Wouldn't it be amazing if we could both have tickets to Tebow's first MLB game? That day is coming, Brother Buzz. That day is coming!

CARLSBAD, Calif. -- New York Mets minor leaguer Tim Tebow has earned a promotion to Triple-A Syracuse.

The 2007 Heisman Trophy winner and former NFL quarterback hit .273 with six homers and 36 RBIs in 84 games this year for Double-A Binghamton. His season was cut short by a broken hamate bone in his right hand, which required surgery July 24.

"Timmy is not a guy you want to put restraints on," new Mets general manager Brodie Van Wagenen said Wednesday. "If he sees a block, he's going to work that much harder to go overcome whatever somebody places on him. I believe in him."

Before he was hired by the Mets last week, Van Wagenen worked at CAA Baseball and represented the 31-year-old outfielder. Tebow hit .301 in June for Binghamton and .340 in 15 games in July.

But, in a world with all kinds of controversial athletes, I think Timmy means well. Besides, I can't help but cheer for someone who is an elite athlete in one sport trying to make it to the top in another sport. Only a few have done it (Bo Jackson and Deion Sanders won't be surpassed anytime soon, however).

Major league batting is the most difficult and frustrating athletic endeavor to master.

Good to have an ally in the Tebow cheer squad. There are quite a few here who want to see him fail. Not me, despite ideological differences.

If nothing else, he's done better than Michael Jordan.

it's a curiosity thing, you know? Like what I posted about Dak Prescott's development the other day. There's as much a mental hurdle to clear in sports as a physical one. I think it's fascinating to watch. It's pretty much common to anybody who ever picked up a baseball bat, golf club, running shoe, etc. We all understand it.

If you were to check the history, there are all kinds of previous Tim Tebow threads. The focus isn't on politics, it's on performance (or lack thereof).

I think most athletes are fine even if they aren't perfect. I just usually ignore the Tebow stuff but I don't think he's much better than any athlete.

It's going to be interesting to hear how he does facing Triple A pitching.

And speaking of pitching, I'm still waiting for the Mets to call up Sidd Finch, with his wicked 168 miles per hour fastball

He's a pitcher, part yogi and part recluse. Impressively liberated from our opulent life-style, Sidd's deciding about yoga—and his future in baseball.

Yeah, he had the highest BA in his 2.2 years in the minors, but he struck out 103 times in 298 plate appearances, or one K for every 2.9 walking up to the plate. He also had only 6 HR and 20 XBH.

Project that out to a 600 plate appearance season (the qualifying number for stats is 576) and it's 207 K's, 12 HR and 40 XBH.

Against minor league pitching.

That's not all that impressive, IMO.

His batting average had been steadily climbing after a mediocre start, and if he didn't bust his hand a week or so after the All Star game, he just might have ended the season in the high .290's. Woohoo!

I doubt he'll ever makes the Mets forty-man roster, but my Magic 8 Ball is optimistic he might play some triple A ball next year.

In the meantime, I hear he has a sock full of quarters and is shoehorning invisits to the batting cages while he does that college football analyst gig.

Nearly everyone who makes it in the Majors goes from AA to the show. AAA is not that much a promotion. Promotional, but not a promotion.

by a general manager who used to be his personal manager? I know Tebow has friends in "high" places, but this is ridiculous!
