Carlos Gonzalez: DFA

The Cleveland Indians designated outfielder Carlos Gonzalez for assignment Wednesday and recalled catcher Eric Haase from Triple-A Columbus.

Gonzalez, 33, hit .210 with two home runs, seven RBI and a .558 OPS for the Indians in 30 games. He signed a minor-league contract with the club during spring training and was added to the major league roster on April 14.

After signing March 19, the Indians brought Gonzalez along slowly, easing him into a handful of Cactus League games before sending him on a six-game assignment to Columbus, where he hit .348 with a 1.004 OPS in 23 at-bats.

Gonzalez struck out 33 times in 117 plate appearances batting regularly between third and sixth in Francona’s lineup. He hit .128 with men on base and .120 with runners in scoring position.

He sure was a big disappointment.

And I think they ought to send JRam down to AAA to work on his mechanics.

they'd need another 3rd baseman as back-up or call-up Chang or Nolan -- neither of which may be ready for the bigs. Maybe there's a trade, though they haven't much to offer at the moment. We were told at season's start this year was a mini-rebuild, though it's looking like more than that now. Most of the line up -- Santana and Lindor excepted -- look really lost at the plate.

I am liking Mercado. And the return of Naquin and Zimmer is not far off. Clevinger and Kluber return -- who knows?
