get what they can for MadBum and Will Smith or do they hold on to them in hopes of making the playoffs?

all the Giants' roster moves up to this point -- trades, DFAs, call-ups -- have improved the team this year. So the consensus is that if trading Bumgarner or Smith would improve the 2019 team ... why not? But it would have to be for players who fill can fill holes right now, not prospects -- another infielder, set-up or long reliever, a fifth starter ... we'll see.

This was SF's first sweep at Coors in 8 years.

Bumgarner has been plagued by bum luck and lackluster outings all season. That is, until last night.

He went nine inning in a 92 pitch non decision pitching dual against Met's pitcher, Syndergaard. The old Bumgarner is BACK, but his outing also moved him from a buyers to a sellers market.

There are rumors the Yankees are perusing Bumgardner and Syndergaard, but so are the Twins. 31 July, Baby!

It was fun watching the pitching dual, but the sixteenth inning come from behind Giants win was the real joy.

though I turned it off after 9 innings and didn't see the 16th.

That was the best Bumgarner has pitched in years, I think. Too damn bad he couldn't get the win. Giants had many opportunities to score (two lead-off triples!!!).

Onward!

but he didn't get dinged with a loss. Kinda like a base on balls, but his stats improved; I assume his ERA dropped a bit.

Our Giants are one game out of second place, Baby!

team bought full into analytics/metrics data this season. Maybe it's finally showing results. Giants really looked like terrible to start the season though. It could become futile just as quickly.

Even when you think you know what's going to happen, you don't know what's going to happen.

BTW the Brewers have been huge into analytics since the current GM took over three seasons ago, too. Last season it paid huge dividends; this season, not as much. Analytics can certainly help build a competitive team, but the game (thankfully) is still played between the lines.

Also, although I'm a nearly lifelong Brewer fan (they came to town when I was five years old), one of my favorite players of all time was a Giant: Will "The Thrill" Clark. In my opinion he had one of the sweetest swings in all of baseball in his day, and would have easily hit 40+ home runs per year if he hadn't played half his games in Candlestick!

Our Giants moved out of the cellar into third place in the NL West, one game ahead of Colorado.

I'm really liking the three newest members to the roster, Austin Slater, Alex Dickerson, Mike Yastrzemski. Oh, and Solano is on fire, too.

I may be wrong, but it looks like the Giants are front-loaded with southpaw hitters and they LOVE that right field fence.

And surprise, Alex Dickerson and Mike Yastrzemski are left handed hitters, too, although Yastrzemski can hit wicked zingers to left field, keeping the defense on their guard.

Trumad, Joeybee12, Cboy4, Upton, Hawkeye, Spiral Hawk, the guy with the Godzilla thingy and Kaima Ana (oh wait - that's the other defunct place)?

So where were you 50 years ago tomorrow? I was camping out on the beach at the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel near Kona Hawaii. Those rich fuckers condescend and let us watch the first steps on the Moon from their TV at the bar.

He's been lost to the ages of time.

I also saw the Apollo 12 astronauts (Conrad and Bean) train on the terrain at Volcanoes National Park. We ate lunch with them!
