Related: About this forumColin Kaepernick was banned for kneeling. What does Myles Garrett get for assault?
Kaepernick's ban was unofficial -- kneeling during the National Anthem. But make no mistake, he was punished.
What does the league do with Garrett?
Your thoughts?

(17,862 posts)Short lease after that. Quickly escalating penalties for other personal fouls.
2 games for Pouncy for punching and kicking.
1 game for Ogunjobi for pushing down the helmetless Rudolph.
1 game for Rudolph for trying to take off Garrett's helmet and kicking him in the groin.
It could have very easily been a Marty McSorley/Donald Brashear incident if the crown instead of the padding had hit Rudolph.

That's an interesting take.
(EDIT: I originally asked "The unsuccessful helmet removal should be punished harder than the successful assault & battery?", but in the spirit of my belief that there is no such thing as attempted assault, I changed it.)

(107,922 posts)I watched Garrett when he was at the University of Washington. I'm extremely disappointed.

Fine and suspension at the very least
Ugly, ugly, ugly
If they want to ban him from the league, Id support that, too

(31,167 posts)and I grew up a Browns fan.
I found it rather ironic that at halftime FOX showed a clip of a pile-driving sack of Terry Bradshaw by Cleveland DT Joe "Turkey" Jones from 1976. Jones lifted Bradshaw off his feet, and drove his head into the playing field. Todays's Bradshaw grimaced and grinned at the footage, but I've heard him talk of it before. Video here:
Rudolph is seemingly okay. I hope that's the case.
I was watching that Browns-Steelers game in 1976.

(22,140 posts)happened. Our two teams have always gotten after each other and I guess we expect it. This was definitely too much.

(31,167 posts)I was wondering why the starters were still in game.
I've always admired the Steelers. The Rooneys are smart owners. It filters down from the top, a component missing in the Browns organization for decades.

(29,322 posts)Garrett's helmet crossed a line but so did the Steelers pinning him to the ground and kicking him. I bet he is a hero to his teammates while Garrett's teammates are on his side but the actions by all involved are ugly but this isn't a Malice in the Palace situation.

(22,140 posts)team moved to Baltimore. Many of us stood with our backs turned to the field to protest the move. We didnt know what to expect for the future. It was sad to think we would lose our backyard rival.
Maybe your new coach will harness the energy of all of that young talent and get you guys to the playoffs. My brother in law is a Browns fan. I always say they have a mixed marriage 😀.
Auggie
(31,167 posts)not because of his head-coaching or play-calling experience (he had none to little), but because he had a "relationship" with Mayfield.
Really? That's the rationale in Cleveland? Yeah, like drafting Johnny Manzeil because it would be "cool." (they really said that).
And then trading away needed draft choices for Beckham. You trade for Beckman to fill a hole, not to rebuild. Bad move that will haunt for years.
As a Steelers fan you should be thrilled. They'll be back. The Rooneys will see to that, and it'll be two team conference again -- Baltimore and Pittsburgh. That's a worthy rivalry.

(13,492 posts)Of his career in football. No excuses. If someone on the street did this they would be charged with assault.

(17,086 posts)In a perfect world, the Cleveland PD would arrest him for assault, as the offence happened after the whistle. I hope Rudolph sues the shit out of him.
Cuthbert Allgood
(4,917 posts)Had that happened, the whole fight might never have happened.
That said, Rudolph needed to keep his shit together and not try to take off Garrett's helmet and start that fight. And, of course, Garrett needed to not assault a guy with a helmet.

(29,322 posts)I don't think it was roughing the passer but I think Rudolph got frustrated.

(182,774 posts)The receiver either already had the ball or it just about to get to him.
They play each other again in 17 days. I saw that in the schedule at the beginning of the year. I would expect the League and the NFLPA to have some come to Jesus meetings with both teams. This MAY have been a factor in what Myles did. The Browns pretty much have to win out to have a shot at the playoffs and playing against a third stringer in one game would help.
JonLP24
(29,322 posts)Then Rudolph tried to ripping his helmet off which led to Myles taking his helmet off instead.
