The Belmont Stakes is tomorrow, the first of the Triple Crown horse races for a switch...

Anyone know why it's been shortened to a mile and an eighth instead of it's usual mile and a half?

Big break with tradition there, but delaying the Derby was worse, though absolutely necessary.

As for shortening it, nobody has ever worried about stressing the horses before..... I don't see heat as much of an issue for such a short amount of time. Don't remember any horse ever having a problem there because of it, since its about speed, not endurance. I'm guessing no spectators?

Flame away.
