He played well on a terrible team.

I wish him a speedy recovery and a competent offensive line.

his blood basically turned toxic and it ate away at everything on his leg.

Descriptions and pics at link are disturbing

was because his injury was atypical and there were actually lots of doubts that he'd be able to walk properly ever again, let alone play football. I think the most comparable situation to Smith's would be Tua Tagovailoa's hip injury in college. Fortunately surgery went well for both players.

Torn ACLs and MCLs, on the other hand, are fairly routine injuries for professional (and amateur) athletes these days. I don't mean to downplay the severity of it because it is a long road back, but it's been done many, many times.

I saw the images that you linked in past coverage. They are grotesque but he overcame that through incredible determination (and amazing medical science). It's too bad he plays for such a terrible franchise!

I would hate to see this fine young man's career shortened by injury in the same way Andrew Luck's was.

Get better soon Joe Burrow.

Another bad franchise is going to ruin a promising QB. All he was warned about has come to pass. His own lineman blocked the defensive player into Burrow.

It was the sixth round until they drafted an offensive lineman after drafting Burrow.

Burrow was repeatedly pounded by defenses all year, so it was just a matter of time until this type of injury happened to him.

A very promising talent, possibly ruined by cheap Bengals owner Mike Brown who didn't acquire decent o-line talent to protect him. Hope he fully recovers!
