Incredible high school football catch

Division 5 Ohio State High School championship game, Kirtland vs Ironton, played November 21st. Initially ruled out-of-bounds, call was overturned on review. Play helped sustain a second quarter TD drive on the way to a 38-0 Kirtland rout.

This was the third straight state championship for the Kirtland Hornets, their sixth title in 10 years, and continued their winning streak of 41 games, currently the fourth longest streak in the U.S. Pretty incredible for a high school that averages a yearly enrollment of just over 400 students.

The receiver has his man beat between the numbers and the sideline; it appears to me to be a hitch and go route.
If you notice, the OLB (33) is caught up playing the run and can't get back to help the CB in time despite the fact that
the QB was looking at the receiver all the way and the FS(20) (I don't know what he was looking at because at :09 it was clearly a pass play) doesn't drop back in coverage to give the CB any help.
The CB doesn't have position and is clearly beat. the WR was looking over his right shoulder expecting the ball there.
If the QB hits him there, it's 6 running away. But he has to readjust the route and his position toward the sideline instead of the numbers.
The QB rolls left and throws to the sideline(?) Now I'm not sure if somebody missed the route or forgot the play but that pass wasn't supposed to be there. He had more time than he thought. And you see the difference between HS and other levels of play; he was throwing to an area not to the receiver who was open. Not to take anything away from the kid's fantastic catch but somehow this seems like a breakdown on the defense and the QB misreading of the play.
The defense caught a break and the offense missed an easy TD.
