RIP Marvelous Marvin Hagler

One of the best ever.

Former boxer Marvelous Marvin Hagler has passed away. He was 66.

An official cause of death has not been announced yet. He passed away in New Hampshire.

“I am sorry to make a very sad announcement,” his wife Kay G. Hagler said in a Facebook post on Marvelous Marvin Hagler Fan Club page. “Today unfortunately my beloved husband Marvelous Marvin passed away unexpectedly at his home here in New Hampshire. Our family requests that you respect our privacy during this difficult time.”

In his boxing career, Hagler went 62-3-2 with 52 knockouts. He competed in the sport from 1973 through 1987.

I'm bumming out, I was a big Hagler fan. 66 sounds young these days. Those were some glory days for boxing, Leonard, Hagler, Hearns, Duran.

Peace

sent me lots of pictures from John's training camp. He said that John the the hardest puncher he ever saw. He said Marvin might beat him, but that both men would get hurt.

In my opinion, the greatest middleweight champion.

I posted a picture of Marvin with my younger daughter a few minutes ago on facebook. He was a great guy outside of the ring.

He was amazing at a time when boxing was so much more than it has faded into...I thought he was older than 66, a sobering reminder that while the party goes on, we all have to leave sooner than we know.

Thanks for the imagery and memories of what heart and courage and determination could be.

great fights. In fact, I was interviewed by the PR people after one of the fights and asked what I thought of bowing at the Spectrum. I was 16 years old and said “Boxing at the Spectrum is the greatest” and they made it into a television commercial that ran for years every time the fights were scheduled. My 15 minutes of fame played on tv for years. Best fight I saw there was Johnson vs Franklin who went at it several times. Later, as a lawyer, I had the pleasure of representing another Philly legend Willie “The Worm” Monroe who I watched fight as a kid.

I was watching (on the internet) the son of Eugene "Cyclone" Hart training fighters. What an exciting fighter Cyclone was! I have some great photos of my brothers and I hanging out with him at the 1972 Golden Gloves, when he was briefly trained by Cus D'Amato. If I'm able, I might bring my boy to Philly to get in some real sparring this summer. Philly has a unique history of outstanding fighters.

Ali living in Cherry Hill where I lived. We used to ride our bikes by his house but never saw him there. My neighbor did though and Ali actually invited him into his house. Philly has quite a tradition, I miss the golden age of boxing and can’t quite understand with the money involved how it’s nit a bigger sport. My Dad never took me to any sporting events except boxing and we were ringside for all the Philly fights. I recall seeing some of the greats there sitting in the seats around me. Never saw Frazier or Ali there but plenty of others. Probably the biggest name I saw fight in Philly besides Hagler was Duran who was one of my favorite fighters before the “No mas” fight.

And he was ripped off in the Leonard fight decision.

I don't watch boxing anymore, but I would if my dad was still around.

The greatest round of boxing (fight, for that matter) I've ever seen was when I watched it live on HBO. Unbelievable.

Quite sad to see he has passed, what a fine boxer and fine man.

I have to admit though, I was rooting for Tommy "Hitman" Hearns in this fight but was not at all disappointed in the outcome. Amazing fight between two incredible warriors

Thomas Hearns Says Marvin Hagler Was 'In ICU Fighting The After Effects Of The Vaccine'

The boxing world was stunned to learn of the news that "Marvelous" Marvin Hagler died on Saturday at the age of 66. His wife made the announcement on the legendary boxer's Facebook fan page and said her husband "passed away unexpectedly" in their New Hampshire home.

Absent from all the news coverage and ensuing obituaries has been Hagler's cause of death.

That lack of disclosure drew attention to a couple of social media posts from fellow boxing legend Thomas "Hitman” Hearns, with whom Hagler had arguably his greatest triumph in the ring back in the 1980s. Hearns said on Saturday prior to Hagler's death that his former rival was suffering health problems due to "the vaccine," using an exclamation mark for emphasis.

Hearns posted that message to his verified Instagram account and asked his followers to pray for Hagler, who he called "the king"and his family.

"He's in ICU fighting the after effects of the vaccine!" Hearns claimed in the post without offering any proof or specifying which vaccine.

What's weird, he posted it BEFORE Hagler's death. One could speculate he was given a heads up their were health issues and, well, he ran with half truths and spun it in an unfortunate direction he shouldn't have gone. Hell, inserting the Covid19 vaccine into the dialog is red meat for the conspiracy whackadoodles; it could have gone viral.

Hagler died suddenly in New Hampshire on Saturday. Shortly before he passed, former opponent turned friend Thomas Hearns posted the following on social media next to a picture of Hagler: “A real true warrior Pray for the king and his family.. he’s in ICU fighting the after effects of the vaccine! He’ll be just fine but we could use the positive energy and Prayer for his Full Recovery!” This reportedly led to suspicion that the cause of Hagler’s death may have been a reaction to the Covid19 vaccine. Hearns, however, came out afterwards and indicated his intent was to have people pray for a friend, not start rumors.
