Broncos to aggressively pursue Aaron Rodgers trade

The Denver Broncos were linked to an Aaron Rodgers trade leading up to last week’s NFL Draft. While nothing came to fruition on that end, general manager George Paton is apparently putting on a full-court press to land Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers.

“The Denver Broncos continue to be the team I hear that are going to be the most interested (in Aaron Rodgers), and are going to put the most in front of the Green Bay Packers to try to make this trade go down,” ESPN’s Dianna Russini noted on Tuesday.

Denver’s interest in Rodgers can’t be considered too much of a surprise. It passed up on the likes of fellow quarterbacks Mac Jones and Justin Fields with the ninth pick in the 2021 NFL Draft last week in favor of cornerback Patrick Surtain II. In fact, Denver did not select a single signal-caller in the annual event.

For now, the Broncos are set to watch Drew Lock and the recently acquired Teddy Bridgewater compete for a starting job. That might not be the case come time for training camp this summer after Rodgers requested a trade from the Green Bay Packers.

Essentially, if the Packers move Rodgers after June 1, the salary cap hit would be significantly less. I don't understand why that was the case, but thats what this article was saying.

I understand they are just biding their time for Trevor Lawrence till he's ready to retire.

Elway as part of a draft-day trade and Manning as a free agent. But, alas, Luck retired for good. So if the Broncos have to break from tradition and poach a Green Bay QB instead, I say go for it

If Rodgers was 30 (maybe even 32). But he's 37.

If anyone could guarantee that Aaron could play as well as Brady for as long as Brady, well, that would make it worthwhile too. But there's only one TB 12 (which is probably a good thing???).

he just won the MVP and he basically carried a hot garbage offense to the #1 offense in the league. Imagine what he could do with top tier people at the skill positions.

He's got maybe 2 top years and 2 OK years left (unless he gets another ring then retires), is 1 super bowl worth 4 1st rnd picks?

But, as a Vikings fan for over 50 years, I'd take one ring any way we could get it at this point.

to deliver a Super Bowl this year and maybe even next year, if he's on a team with the right offensive scheme and with a good receiving corps. As long as he doesn't butt heads with the offensive coordinator -- a battle he'd likely win but it could cause more turmoil.

But if another team is going to mortgage their future for a chance at winning this year or next, that's a lot to give up. I guess it depends on the philosophy of the franchise owner.

These contracts are viewed as company assets and are bought and sold as such (although in players/draft picks not $$$)
