Report: Texas, Oklahoma in talks to bolt Big 12 for SEC

The University of Texas and University of Oklahoma have both talked to the Southeastern Conference about the possibility of leaving the Big 12 to join the SEC, according to the Houston Chronicle's Brent Zwerneman.

Adding the Longhorns and Sooners would give the SEC 16 schools and leave the Big 12 with just eight, possibly opening the door for the University of Houston to join the league it has had its eyes on ever since the Southwest Conference dissolved in 1996. Of course, the SEC going to 16 members could trigger further conference movement with the ACC, Pac-12 and Big 10 all looking to move to 16 school as well.

Texas A&M and Missouri left the Big 12 for the SEC in 2012 and an announcement about the Longhorns and Sooners following suit could happen within the next couple of weeks, according to the Houston Chronicle's report.

Such a move would shake the college football landscape, but here at home, it would mean the Longhorns and Aggies could resume their rivalry, which hasn't taken place on a football field since 2011.

Then move Alabama and Auburn into the East Division, so Texas and Oklahoma could be added to the West. That would preserve Alabama's biggest East rival game with Tennessee, Auburn could play Georgia as always, and not impact the Iron Bowl.
