CANTON, Ohio Behind three big-time turnovers, the University of Wisconsin-River Falls claimed its first Stagg Bowl title in program history with a 24-14 victory over North Central College in the Division III National Championship game on Sunday night at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium.
Preventing the Cardinals (14-1) from winning their fourth Stagg Bowl title in six years, the Falcons (14-1) made the big plays on defense when it mattered most to hand North Central its first loss of the year.
The Falcons forced the Cardinals into two red-zone turnovers and snared a fourth-quarter interception to hinder hopes of a comeback.
Finding a way to make a game-defining play in the fourth quarter with the temperature dropping into the low 20s, the Falcons Jack Olson intercepted a screen pass after he batted the ball up in the air and made a circus grab for the pick.

Falcons quarterback Kaleb Blaha finished the 2025 NCAA Division III football season with a record-breaking 6,051 yards of total offense, surpassing the previous all-divisions record held by Joe Burrow. It was an exciting game to watch with the UW-RIver Falls moving rapidly between snaps which wore on the North Central defense in the second half.

(32,690 posts)My son is a North Central graduate. He used to do the play by play for the games on the college radio station. He was the radio station manager for a while, too. He is in his forties now, so that was some time ago.

(125,414 posts)I thought about you when I was posting this thread since I knew that you were in the North Central Illinois vicinity. I'm glad that I watched the game since it was exciting and probably more entertaining than the Steelers-Ravens game tonight. I also was compelled to post the news since I graduated from a D3 university.
