Golf fans never considered their team approach or the 54 Holes (LIV in Roman numerals) to be legitimate. We also saw it for what it was “sports washing” and the golfing community isn’t exactly liberal.

Aside from Trump loving Bryson “Math Boy” DeChambeau winning the US Open (which is a big deal) two years ago, the names that perennially are on majors leaderboards who jumped on guaranteed money wilted on the vine. The lack of complete competition and probably less time they put into practice showed. The 4th round makes all the difference. Pro golfers do get sponsorships but they are independent contractors - if you don’t play and play somewhat well, it all goes away.

They were basically out of sight out of mind.
